Project Summary
The Training Course 360°- Peace in Media aims to provide young people a deeper understanding of the relationship
between media and peace-building and equip them with skills in analysing
critically the freedom of expression and information in the contexts of
conflict (social, military, interests). Focusing on the role of media in
conflict, the course will raise awareness about the important role played by
the media and the educational role that it has, especially in developing the
values of peace, justice, freedom, mutual respect and understanding, as well as
human rights.
The final result of the training will be a travelling
photo exhibition to be held in partner
organizations’ countries after the training, and will last for 6 months. This
follow-up phase of the project has been planned in consultation with all
project partners, reaching approximately 21.750 and 3,800 youth and adults – as
direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project!
Objectives
*The
main objective of this project is to give young people a deeper understanding
of the relationship between media and peace building, and a critical analysis
of freedom of expression and information in relation to society. Another
objective is to bring together young people interested in media in Europe,
South Caucasus and the Mediterranean to share
their realities and experiences with
the tools of mass communication.
* It aims to help young people develop their freedom
of thought and expression against prejudices and stereotypes when they are
exposed to partisa/biased media and to help deconstruct these biases. By being
"critical consumers" youth are better able to analyze information and
have critical knowledge of the misconceptions, especially in relation to
controversial issues.
* This TC hopes to enable young people to understand/analyze
different media realities of other countries, and how media supports or
obstructs freedom of expression of youth. It is expected to provide participants
with an open environment where they can freely express and share their ideas
and opinions.

network and collaborate in the future
Ø
To collectively organise a small creative photo exhibit, and plan a
traveling photo exhibit
Methodology
The training will use non-formal learning approaches
such as simulations, role plays, games, group discussions, practical training skills
transfer, as well as participant-led workshop exercises and feedback sessions.
It will be learner-centered in a sense that it will take into account the
experience of the participants as the basis of discussions. The TC will remain
flexible and adaptable to individual and group needs, as well as greatly
consider the importance of local and regional contexts.
Photography and Media Tools
Aside from discussing the overall analysis of media’s
role in peacebuilding and conflicts, the second part of the training will be
based on practical and hands-on tools, such as photography as a means of
expression. Participants will have an opportunity to express themselves in a
more artistic and creative way by reflecting on, and producing their own
concept of freedom of expression and peace.
Profile of Participants
24 youth workers from 12 countries, interested in learning and developing
tools used today in communicating in Europe, the Caucasus and the Mediterranean
region. Youth participants are expected to be open-minded and actively share
their realities and experience. Participants should attend the whole training,
and should be committed to take part in all the phases of the project, including
the follow-up phase (travelling exhibit).
Trainers
The training
will be led by an intercultural team of 3 trainers experienced in the field of
peacebuilding, media and conflict, with the participants as equal partners in
determining their own development towards reaching the project objectives. Working
language is English
Course
participants who have completed the training will have the right to receive a
YouthPass. This is an instrument for validating and recognizing non-formal
learning within the Youth in Action Programme of the European Commission.
